Student Council

Who are the Student Council

One of the ways we help our children to blossom in Scoil Oilibhéir is to develop their leadership skills and respect their opinions.

At Scoil Oilibhéir, we are proud to have a newly elected, dedicated, and passionate Student Council of 14 students: 6 from Rang a Sé, 6 from Rang a Cúig, and 2 from An Droichead. Our Student Council plays a key role in representing the voices of our pupils and working closely with our principal, Mr  O’Brien, deputy principal, Mr Elliffe, Ms Vaughan (Student Council Coordinator), and the rest of the teaching staff to make Scoil Oilibhéir an even better place to learn and grow.

The Student Council meets formally on the first Wednesday morning of each month, following full meeting procedures with an agenda.  During these meetings, members discuss a range of topics important to the student body, such as improving school facilities, organising fun events, and raising awareness about health and well-being. By addressing these topics, the Student Council help shape a positive and engaging school experience for all pupils.

The Student Council also assists in many school events, including our Open Night. They take great pride in welcoming new pupils, especially our Junior Infants, into the Scoil Oilibhéir family. One of the special aspects of life in Scoil Oilibhéir is that every pupil feels included and supported, and we encourage everyone to share their ideas.

Being a member of the Student Council is a great honour. The pupils enjoy listening to their classmates' ideas and working as a team to bring them to life. It’s a privilege for each council member to have a role in shaping the future of our school, fostering a sense of pride and ownership in the Scoil Oilibhéir community.

Through their roles, council members develop valuable skills such as leadership, organisation, and responsibility. Their contributions help create a welcoming, inclusive, and thriving school environment, and the experience they gain prepares them for future leadership roles in their communities
